CRT Sim uses PostHog, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to understand how the tool is used so it can be improved. We keep this to a minimum and never sell your data.

Your video stays on your device

CRT Sim is a client-side shader playground. The clip you load is decoded, rendered, and exported entirely in your browser — it is never uploaded to us or anyone else. When you export, the file is saved straight to your device. We never receive your video, its contents, or its file name.

What we collect

Anonymous usage events only:

• That the app loaded, and where you arrived from (referrer / UTM tags)
• Which effect settings you adjust (scanlines, phosphor, vignette, bloom, curvature) and their values
• Aspect-ratio changes and crop / reset actions
• That a video was loaded — its format, extension, size, dimensions, and duration, but never the file itself or its name
• When you save or load an effect preset
• Export actions — the chosen format and codec, clip length, and whether the export finished, was stopped, or failed
• Clicks on the GitHub, Ko-fi, Twitch, and X links
• Errors, so broken states can be found and fixed

What we do NOT collect

• Your video, its frames, its audio, or its file name are never sent
• No session recording, no keystrokes, no personal profiles
• We don't sell or share your data

Cookies & your choice

Analytics uses first-party cookies (and local storage) to recognise return visits. You choose whether to allow them — rejecting means no analytics cookies are set and nothing is captured. You can change your mind any time right here:

The short version

CRT Sim is free, open source software provided as is under the MIT License. It runs entirely in your browser. There are no accounts, no subscriptions, and no fees.

Acceptance

These terms are a legal agreement between you and the CRT Sim project ("CRT Sim", "we") covering the app and the source published at github.com/sidkapahi/crt-sim. By using CRT Sim, you accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

The software and your license

CRT Sim is released under the MIT License. That license governs your right to use, copy, modify, and distribute the software, and it prevails if anything here appears to conflict with it. You may run CRT Sim for personal or commercial use at no cost.

Your content is your responsibility

CRT Sim processes video you choose to load. That video is handled entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to us. You are responsible for having the rights to any clip you load and process, and for how you use the footage you export. Do not use CRT Sim to process content you are not entitled to use.

CRT Sim is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any browser, codec, or platform vendor. All product names and logos are the property of their respective owners.

Acceptable use

Use CRT Sim lawfully and only with content you are entitled to access. Do not use it to infringe anyone's rights or to violate any applicable law. You are responsible for how you use and distribute the exports it produces.

No warranty

CRT Sim is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error free, or that exports will always succeed, since they depend on your browser's WebGL and WebCodecs support, which is outside our control.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort, or otherwise, arising from, out of, or in connection with CRT Sim or the use of or other dealings in it. Because the tool is free, you assume responsibility for how you use it.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the tool evolves. The current version is always posted here with the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use CRT Sim after a change means you accept the revised terms.
